Los Angeles: Actor Gerard Butler's drama "Geostorm" has been pushed by three months and will now release on January 13, 2017.

Warner Bros had originally dated the film for October 21 release. The sci-fi adventure film, starring 45-year-old Butler, marks the directorial debut of veteran writer-producer Dean Devlin, who teamed with Roland Emmerich to produce 1996's "Independence Day", said The Hollywood Reporter.

Written by Devlin, "Geostorm" follows a satellite designer (Butler) who heads into space to prevent climate-controlling satellites from creating a man-made storm of epic proportions when he and his estranged brother learn of a plot to assassinate the president.

The January 13-16 holiday weekend already has four films releasing, "Boss Baby", "The Dark Tower", "The Magnificent Seven and "Power Rangers".
