New Delhi: Actress Pernia Qureshi, who has made her Bollywood debut with "Umrao Jaan" director Muzaffar Ali's "Jaanisaar", feels she could not have entered the industry in a better way.
"Jaanisaar", which released last week, is a period romance and also stars Pakistani actor Imran Abbas. It marks Ali's big screen comeback after the cult 1981 National Award-winning movie.
"I think for my first film, it's a really nice way to enter the industry. It was elegant, so much sophisticated, with adaa (style) and charm in the way Muzaffar uncle presented me.
"I don't think I could've entered the industry in a better way," she told reporters here last night after walking the ramp for Suneet Varma's closing show at the BMW India Bridal Fashion Week.
Pernia said she was happy with the response her movie has received. "Yes, I am very happy. I haven't looked into the numbers as I was busy. I haven't had any time to touch base with the team and ask what is happening.
"I did my job and I am happy that I got the opportunity to see the movie with the Vice President in Delhi and they loved it. Muzaffar uncle did a great job." The actress, who plays a courtesan in the period-love story, danced on one of the songs from the film to open the show, which marked her second outing on the ramp within a month.
"I really enjoyed dancing because I loved the set. To use the stairs and the stage, I enjoyed the space. I was wearing a beautiful anarkali. I am so honoured to be a part of the show," she said.
"I feel like slowly I am becoming a professional model. It's fun. I don't take it seriously, I don't try an be a model I jut try and be myself and have fun." Even though she finds Kangana Ranaut and Sonam Kapoor very stylish, the actress does not wish to imitate anyone.
"There are a lot of stylish girls in Bollywood, like Kangana, Sonam, Neha Dhupia, Kalki. They have great style. But I don't look up to anybody as I believe style should be personal and should be your own. I like my own style."
Not in a hurry to sign her next project, Pernia wants to take her time to choose the "right" film. "I have been offered two films so far, but haven't decided. I am going to take my own time. There's no rush... I want to choose the right film," she said.
