Los Angeles: Actress Octavia Spencer is in final negotiations to play God in Lionsgate's upcoming film 'The Shack'.

Based on the 2007 William P Young novel, the story focuses on a man whose youngest daughter is abducted during a family vacation, with evidence found in an abandoned shack leading authorities to believe she was murdered, reported Variety.

Four years later, the man receives a note, apparently from God, inviting him back to the shack and, against his better judgement, he accepts the invitation and finds something there that will change his life forever."

No other cast members have been named. Production on the film is set to be kicked off later this spring with Stuart Hazeldine directing, and Gil Netter and Brad Cummings producing it.
Release date has not yet been set.

Spencer, 44, won a Best Supporting Oscar for her role in 'The Help'. She also starred in 'Black or White' and can next be seen in 'The Divergent Series: Insurgent' and 'Fathers and Daughters'.
