Los Angeles: Director Sam Raimi regrets messing up the third 'Spider-Man' film in the Tobey Maguire starrer series. Speaking to the Nerdist podcast, Raimi said he faced many challenges while directing Sony's 'Spider-Man' trilogy.

"Each and every one of those 'Spider-Man' movies were pretty damn challenging," Raimi said of the films.

"I messed up plenty with the third Spider-Man, so people hated me for years ? they still hate me for it. It's a movie that just didn't work very well." Raimi now feels it was wrong to make the trilogy's final film because he "didn't really believe in all the characters."

The director said he should have kept the focus on the relationships between the characters instead of trying to top the previous two films. Despite poor reviews, the film grossed USD 890 million worldwide, more than either of its two predecessors in the franchise.

The character was rebooted again by the studio with Marc Webb taking over Raimi while the web-slinging superhero was portrayed by Andrew Garfield in 'The Amazing Spider-Man' first and second.
