New York: U2 frontman Bono has injured his arm while riding a bicycle here, causing the band to cancel a series of upcoming shows.

The incident took place in New York's Central Park and the 54-year-old singer will require surgery to repair it, reported ABC News.

"It looks like we will have to do our Tonight Show residency another time -- we're one man down," said a note on the U2 website from "Edge, Adam and Larry" -- The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen, Jr.

"Bono has injured his arm in a cycling spill in Central Park and requires some surgery to repair it," the note said. "We're sure he'll make a full recovery soon, so we'll be back! Much thanks to Jimmy Fallon and everyone at the show for their understanding."

Bono recently experienced an in-flight scare on a trip to Berlin, when a rear door fell off the plane.
