Marathi films will enter '100 cr club' in three years: Jadhav

 Noted Marathi filmmaker Sanjay Jadhav said Marathi films will enter the elite '100 crore club' in next two to three years.

Panaji:  Noted Marathi filmmaker Sanjay Jadhav said Marathi films will enter the elite '100 crore club' in next two to three years.

"Riding high on increasing popularity, it will not take much time to hit Rs 100-crore benchmark for Marathi film industry. It will happen within two to three years. Entire credit goes to the current generation of filmmakers," Jadhav told reporters.

The director has delivered hit Marathi films like 'Duniyadari' (2013) and 'Checkmate' (2008). His next film 'Pyar Vali Love Story' is scheduled to release on October 24.

He said Marathi films have the potential to even cross Rs 200-crore mark business in span of next five years.

"The industry will definitely cross 200-crore benchmark in next five years. Right now Marathi films are not only about art and entertainment but also about business," he said.

"The point of view of film maker is changing. Now, they (filmmakers) have also realised to make business from the product while retaining the art and entertainment quotient," Jadhav added.

Speaking about his upcoming film 'Pyar Vali Love Story', he said expectation of audiences is quite high after the success of 'Duniyadari'.

"There are lot of expectations after 'Duniyadari'. People are expecting more from the upcoming film. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Everybody is waiting for the release," he said.

The film stars Swapnil Joshi, Sai Tamhankar and Urmila Kanitkar-Kothare.

"There are lot of inputs in the movie which involving different communities. We have tried to create environment of 90s," he said.
