New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area may have slipped to seventh spot in the latest ranking of Swatchh Bharat survey – a drop of three places from last year.

But under the zone-wise Swachh Survekshan 2017, Delhi was found to be the cleanest among the northern cities, based on solid waste management, access to sanitation and other parameters of cleanliness, under the zone-wise Swachh Survekshan 2017, according to a TOI report.

Indore in Madhya Pradesh emerged as the cleanest Indian city in the survey conducted in 434 cities and towns across the country. Bihar's Gonda was declared dirtiest in the Swatchh survey.

The survey aimed at capturing the outcomes on ground of the ongoing efforts to makeurban areas Open Defacation Free and to door-to-door collection, processing and disposal of municipal solid waste.

NDMC area is now 100% open defecation free, earlier, the practice was noticed in slums located in Moti Bagh and some other places.

Efforts are also being made to achieve the top spot in the coming years, which also include segregating waste by 100% starting from June 5, said an official of NDMC.

The Swachh Survekshan Awards was announced on Thursday, may 4, by Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi.
