Chandigarh: The Haryana government will organise various activities and events to commemorate the birth centenary year of RSS ideologue Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay.

The decision was taken today at the first meeting of state level Pt. Deendayal Upadhyay Birth Centenary Commemoration Committee, which was chaired by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Speaking on the occasion, Khattar said the government planned to disseminate the message of 'Antyodaya' (serving the last man) and ?Ekatam Manavad? (integral humanism), propagated by Upadhyay, at the grassroot level.

"The state government has decided to organise various activities and events throughout the state, and for this, a blueprint has been prepared," said Khattar.

'Khel Mahakumbh', scheduled to be held in September and October this year, would be named after Upadhyay, he said.

"A 'granth mala' based on the life of Pt. Deendayal has been published, and 2,000 copies of it have been distributed to libraries throughout the state," Khattar said.

The chief minister said the state government was following in the footsteps of the Central government, which is celebrating Upadhyay's birth centenary year as 'Garib Kalyan Varsh' and has rolled out number of pro-poor schemes.

"Haryana government too has implemented a number of schemes so as to ensure the socio-economic development of poor people," he said, and exhorted people to follow the path shown by Upadhyay, "as this would be a real tribute to him".

Haryana's Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, who is also the the committee's patron, recalled Upadhyay's contribution to the society.

"Pt. Deendayal worked selflessly for the society and presented the message of 'Vasudev Kutumbakam', which is the basic philosophy of our country, in a new perspective," he said.

"Haryana is progressing fast in every sphere and by following the path shown by Pt. Deendayal, Haryana could emerge as a leading state in the country," he added.

Solanki and Khattar also unveiled a statue of Upadhyay, in Haryana Raj Bhawan.
