New Delhi: Hepatitis can be defined as the inflammation of the liver. While most liver damage is caused by 3 hepatitis viruses, called hepatitis A, B and C, hepatitis can also be caused by alcohol and some other toxins, certain drugs, infections, heavy alcohol use as well as from our own autoimmune process.

 

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), each year, there are about 1.4 million deaths in the world due to hepatitis.

Ahead of World Hepatitis Day, which is on July 28, WHO urged countries to take rapid action to increase knowledge about the disease and reduce deaths. WHO also wants to help you learn and test your knowledge of viral hepatitis, that affects some 400 million people globally – over 10 times the number of people infected with HIV.
