Here's why there are empty spaces in medicinal tablets!

New Delhi: Ever wondered what are the empty spaces in a medicinal tablet for? Well, you might or might not have given a thought about it yet. But, it appears that some folks are already pretty anxious about this, triggering debate-like situations on the web.

There can be multiple reasons, however, here are some general explanations shared by different people:

• Some people thought that empty spaces are created so that they don't react with other tablets or get oxidised.
• For some, they are the outcome of standardised packaging.
• They are meant to guarantee product (including shelflife) of each individual dose.
• One reason is to give space for additional info about the medicine - expiry dates, chemical composition, method of intake, side effects, etc. For instance, some patients may require only a friction of strip, and not the whole. This could prevent cut-off/removal of important information about the tablets and avoid confusion.
• Another reason could be to satisfy human psychology – spaciousness gives customers a feeling of satisfaction, more cost means bigger size, when it's not in reality.
