New Delhi: These foods are part of our daily diets. We even encourage our kids to have them without knowing that they are actually poisonous.

Yes, there are plenty of fruits and vegetables that we heartily consume contain toxins and are secretly dangerous for our health. In rare instance, if these foods are not eaten properly can cause food poisoning.

So, here we are presenting the untold side-effects of some fruits and vegetables:

Tomato

Don't worry, tomato fruits are non-toxic but the roots, stems and leaves of the plant contains alkaloid that are mildly dangerous to humans.

Potatoes

This staple food contains rich amount of solanine. When exposed to light, solanine developes fungiciadal and pesticidal properties and turns the potato surface green. So, protect your potates from turning nasty green by storing them in dark places.

Apples

There is no doubt that apples are highly nutritious but the problem is with there seeds. Apple seed contains amyglidin, a cyanide that is extremely toxic. Well, the same toxic is found in apricot, citrus fruits and cherries. But, you don't worry, it is medically proven that seeds within one apple are not enough to become dangerous.

Kidney beans

Regular intake of kidney beans invite many gastrointestinal distress. When uncooked these beans contain phytohaemagglutinin, a lethal toxin. So, ingesting a few raw kidney beans can cause serious diarrhea and vomiting and can land you in hospital.

Mushrooms

Many of us are not an expert in picking the right edible mushrooms. Wild mushroom identification is a daunting task. So, instead of searching mushies in forests always try to buy them from supermarket and avoid consuming mushrooms from unknown origin.

Beware of bitter almonds! Raw almonds are natural source of cyanide which makes it taste bitter.
