Shimla: Two teenaged girls today allegedly jumped into the Sutlej river while one girl was saved and the other remains untraceable in the district, police said.

The girls, aged 14 and 15 years, reached the bridge in the evening and suddenly jumped from the bridge into the turbulent Sutlej river, they said.

People rushed to the spot and one of the girl was rescued while the other was washed away and was untraced, they said.

Massive search operations have been launched and it was feared that the girl might have been swept into Koldam, the police said.

An alert has been sounded and people have been urged to inform the police in case any person was spotted in the dam or banks of the river, they said.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Balbir Jaswal said that the two girls had jumped into the river and one of them was saved while search is on for the other.

The matter was being investigated, he said.
