Hyderabad, Aug 28: Five persons, including four political activists and one policeman, were killed and several others injured in cross-firing and lathicharge by the police to disperse a violent mob of Congress and Left party activists on Monday in Hyderabad. The protestors tried to take out a procession to the state Assembly in Hyderabad, protesting against the power tariff hike in the state.
One party activist was killed in the cross-firing. The police also burst several rounds of teargas shells and used water cannons to stop thousands of workers of the two parties, who set fire to 10 vehicles.
A curfew-like situation prevailed in the area, with police putting up barricades on all roads in the vicinity of the Assembly.

Earlier, the activists surged forward defying prohibitory orders near Fateh Maidan club, about half a kilometre from state Assembly.
