Kochi, April 01: Popular Malayalam actor Suresh Gopi finds himself in a spot as a lower court admitted a complaint seeking penal action against him for attending a function in a police officer’s uniform in Kochi on March 26.
After preliminary hearing, Judicial First Class Magistrate K S Saratchandran, posted the case to May 3 for taking a sworn statement of the complainant M A Firosh, an advocate.

According to him, the actor had committed a cognisable and non-bailable offence by attending a public function in the attire of Superintendent of Police on March 26. He was the chief guest at the function where he inaugurated a community policing initiative.

Gopi, in his late forties, came to the function in police uniform straight from the shoot of a film called “Twenty Twenty” in which he plays the role of Police Commissioner. His co-stars in the movie are leading Malayalam actors Mohanlal and Mamooty.

The complainant alleged Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kochi, P M Varghese, Circle Inspector, G Venu and Sub Inspector, Jayraj along with several other police officers accompanied Gopi.

He alleged police officers participating in the function knew that they had committed breach of penal provisions and offences under IPC and Kerala police Act and were liable to punished.

Instead of arresting the actor, police officers participated in the function along with Gopi, he alleged.
