Surrounded by controversies and mind-boggling dramatics, the race for the top spot has already begun in filmdom. And even though, we are still in the second month of the year, the contenders for the top slot are evident. So here’s taking a quick look at all the hunks and damsels, who are most likely to be crowned as the next Bollywood superstar this year:

Abhay Deol

Hailed as the ‘Thinking Deol’, Abhay Deol is one of the most promising stars in the industry today. Treading his own path, the actor has made offbeat films a rage with the new generation. Be it his stand-alone performances or choice of pastime, Abhay Deol doesn’t believe in walking the line and we are glad he doesn’t. With films like Dev Benegal’s ‘Road Movie’ and ‘Ayesha’, the actor added an all-new charm to 2010.

Sonam Kapoor

This stunning lass, is one lady to watch out for this year. Owe it to her effervescent look, breezy attitude or natural on-screen charisma, but Sonam is sure to receive her due this year. Even as both her flicks ‘Saawariya’ and ‘Delhi 6’ sunk without a splash at the Box Office, Sonam made waves far and wide. And 2010 will have this stunner soaring high with flicks like ‘Aisha’, ‘I Hate Luv Storys’ and a couple unnamed projects opposite top Titans of Bollywood.

Pratik Babbar

He might have had a very lackluster debut in 2008 and no releases in 2009 but Pratik Babbar is here to say. The actor, who entered filmdom in 2008 with an insignificant but highly praised act in ‘Jaane tu Ya Jaane Na’ is the next big thing to watch out for. With films like Kiran Rao’s ‘Dhobi Ghat’ followed by a film with Rohan Sippy, Homi Adjania and Sanjay Leela Bhansali`s assistant Raghav Dar`s ‘My Friend Pinto’, this talented lad is out to win the race slow and steady.

Imran Khan

2009 might have been a dud of year for this blue-eyed boy, but 2010 is sure looking good for Imran Khan. The actor who faced criticism from one and all post his misfit macho role in ‘Luck’ will be seen in ‘I hate Luv Storys’ opposite Sonam Kapoor and his perfectionist uncle Aamir’s production ‘Delhi Belly’. Going back to basics, the actor will be seen in his element as he plays the loverboy role to seize this year.

Ranbir Kapoor

Touted as the comeback kid of 2009, Ranbir Kapoor has yet another exciting year ahead. The dishy Kapoor scion, who took Bollywood by a storm last year as he belted one hit after the other, has a series of big budget films lined up this year too. Ranging from a political thriller ‘Rajneeti’ to a romantic comedy ‘Anjana Anjani’, the actor is steering away from a stereotypical image to add diversity to his body of work in Bollywood.

Hrithik Roshan

Last seen in a cameo in ‘Luck By Chance’, Hrithik Roshan will be seen sizzling onscreen in two of his long awaited flicks this year. Be it his much controversial ‘Kites’ opposite stunning beauty Barbara Mori or Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’, the actor has quite an interesting lineup for 2010. And even though the stunning actor grabbed his share of limelight for infamous reasons in the past year, we hope he makes headlines for worthy causes this year.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif, who delivered some awe-striking performances in 2009 with films like New York and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, will continue to break free from her onscreen arm-candy image this year. Even though the swishy lass has been officially confirmed in only two projects Rajneeti and Tees Maar Khan, speculations state that the actress has several unnamed projects in the pipeline.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Bagging some of the most prestigious projects, the swishy Mrs Bachchan has become busier post marriage. With some of the leading directors queuing up to sign the actress, Aishwarya will boast of a top-notch film line up this year. Be it endorsements, films or social events Ash has her hands full. As of now the stunning lass will be seen in Hollywood flick ‘Benjamin Button’ remake ‘Action Replay’ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Guzaarish’.

Deepika Padukone

Her film ‘Love Aaj Kal’ might have received mixed responses last year, but Deepika is out to prove her acting mettle with some of most challenging roles this year. Wasting no time in nursing a heartache the newly single lass will be seen in films opposite dashing hunks like Farhan Akhtar in ‘Karthik Calling Karthik’, Abhishek Bachchan in
‘Khelenge Hum Jee Jaan Se’ and Akshay Kumar in ‘Houseful’.

Priyanka Chopra

So what if her twelve roles bombed at the Box Office, Priyanka Chopra was by far the most seen face in 2009. Be it magazine shoots, film promotions or award ceremonies, the actress seized the year as she flaunted her super slim avatar. Winning applause for ‘Kaminey’, the stunner awed the critics for the second year in a row. And going by her jam-packed film schedule for this year, which includes films like ‘Anjana Anjani’ and Seven Husbands, Piggy Chops appears set to woo us all once again.
