Alone on Valentine?

Gosh! It is Valentine’s Day again – that time of the year, which we singletons dread the most. We try to ignore the romance that is so deliciously permeated in the air. We develop an allergy for red roses and aversion for lovey-dovey cards. Cuddly soft toys look like little beasts and love songs sound irksome.

Everywhere, we are forced to witness couples cosying up, exchanging sweet-nothings with passionate looks in their eyes. And we stand alone…aloof…cut-off…marginalised, pretending to be completely satisfied with the ‘single status’, but somewhere secretly yearning for that special someone.

Well, it is wise to accept that our special someone has not arrived yet. Cupid’s love arrow has missed us, again. But that does not mean that we wallow in self-pity and miss all the fun on Valentine’s Day. The V-day can be very interesting and fun-filled, even more for us singles.

Just be your own Valentine and see what wonders the day has in store for you. Here are a few tips to follow and you will have a Valentine’s Day to remember all your life.

For sweety girls and chocolaty boys

Be your own Valentine: It is not everyday that you get a chance to celebrate your individuality – the special person that you are. So, pamper yourself to the hilt. Dress up, order an elaborate dinner, listen to your favourite music and enjoy being just ‘You’.

Have multiple Valentines: No we are not promoting polyandry. V-Day is the perfect occasion to express love to all your loved ones. Just send sweet messages expressing your love to all those you care for. Then, enjoy the wondrous response you get for the loving gesture. Call up those who least expect it, may be your granny or your old uncle, and hear the loving surprise in their voice. You will make it a day to remember for so many people!

Play Cupid to your friends: Play the love God and help your friends choose the perfect gift and card for their Valentines. Ensure that your friends have great fun on the day.

Go shopping: Calculate all the money you would have spent on roses, gifts and cards, if you were in a relationship. Consider it as your saving. Spend it on buying a great outfit. Who knows, you may need it very soon!

Organise a Single’s Party: Throw a party. Invite all your single friends and celebrate your ‘single’ status. In short, have a blast!

For saucy gals and naughty guys

Write a love-letter to yourself: So what, if your rivals are trying to show off their romances. Be creative. Write a long and passionate love-letter to yourself, full of poetry and romance, signed in the name of hottest hunk/babe in town. Make sure that your rival reads it and goes green with jealousy.

Think business: Valentine’s Day is the right time to make money. Steal a few roses from the bouquets of unsuspecting couples. Go back to them, flash your sweetest smile and press them to buy their own roses at exorbitant rates. Of course, they will be ready to pay whatever price you demand. And, be free of guilt, love-struck couples do not mind such trifles, they are too busy being in love.

Declare your love loudly: When the whole world is declaring love, why should you be behind? Let the world know that your lover is the most loving person on Earth, even if you are single. And do it with style. Pretend to talk on your phone and whenever someone passes by, yell at the top of voice – I Love You Too Sweetheart!

Play pranks on couples: Do not let any couple within your sight, romance in peace. Have fun at their expense. As soon as they try to cosy up, sneeze, scream or burn crackers. Remember to feign innocence and act as if you are unconcerned. Hover on them like an irritating fly and check your side-splitting laughter until they leave out of frustration. (Warning: No Shiv Sena type troubles please just a little mischief. And yes, laugh only after they leave or else you may get into ‘physical’ trouble).

Watch a real-life film: Stealthily follow the couple you hate most and find out their meeting place. Call up their disapproving parents and disclose the lovers’ spot and the time of the meeting. Reach at the spot before time and make yourself comfortable. As soon as the characters will make an appearance, you will watch a remake of Romeo-Juliet, Laila-Majnu and Bollywood blockbusters Live.

So, now you would agree that Valentine’s Day could be great fun for singletons also. Enjoy your single status until Cupid strikes. Live the moment, do not miss it!
