Andhra filmmaker arrested for illegally transporting drugs

A film producer and his associate were arrested on charges of illegally transporting contraband drug, police said.

Hyderabad: A film producer and his associate were arrested on charges of illegally transporting contraband drug, police said.

K Venkateshwar Rao, a Telugu film producer who also runs real estate business, and his friend Bhojraj were arrested yesterday when they were transporting `Ephedrine`, a chemical used in manufacturing of naracotic drugs, Madhapur Police Inspector Srinivas Reddy told media here.

Rao and Bhojral, who hails from the city here, were running the illegal business for some time and they were transporting the substance to Mumbai for higher rates, the police officer said.
Police seized 30 kgs of `Ephedrine` and a four-wheeler which was used to transport the countraband brought from Karnataka, the Inspector said.
A special team has been deputed to Karnataka state to find out the source from where the duo purchased the substance, he said.
