BHEL bags VTMS supply order to new Mangalore port trust

State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has bagged an order for supplying Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS).
For the project, BHEL has formed a consortium with Japan radio company and its entry into the port automation business.

The VTMS is designed for monitoring safety of navigation, besides traffic at the points of port entrance and intersection of traffic speed zones, BHEL statement said.

It can effectively detect movement/position of vessels in the port area through radar tracking and provide sailing coordination for anchoring, shift of voyage, among other things as per the preset schedule.

Japan radio company has earlier executed more than 30 projects in this field around the world, the statement added.
