Chennai, Oct 09: The Tamil Nadu Government on Monday
claimed that chikungunya had been brought under control by
adopting a slew of measures, including anti-mosquito control,
which would continue till no cases were reported in the state.

"From over 23,893 cases of chikungunya reported in June,
it has reduced to just 226 cases this month after a series of
measures initiated by the health department," Tamil Nadu Chief
Secretary L K Tripathy told reporters here today.

Fogging and anti-larval control measures would continue
till no case of chikungunya was reported in the state, he
added.

Denying reports of any casualties in the state due to the
viral disease, Tripathy said the government had followed up
cases of chikungunya deaths reported in certain sections of
the media.

"The investigation has revealed that there have been no
fatalities due to the virus in Tamil Nadu. As for Kerala, it
was only being assumed that the deaths were caused due to
chikungunya and there is no confirmation as yet," he said.
