Bhubaneswar: `Peace and Harmony day` would
be observed by Christians in Orissa on the first death
anniversary of Swami Laxmananada Saraswati on August 23 as VHP
declared it would observe `Sacrifice Day` on August 13.
``We are happy that VHP is honouring the Swami. Every
religion has its right to respect its leaders on a particular
day,`` Cuttack-Bhubaneswar Archbishop Raphael Cheenath told
news agencies.
VHP is observing `Sacrifice Day` on Janmastami day. The
festival fell on August 23 last year and Saraswati was killed
along with four others while celebrating it at the Jalespeta
ashram here.
To a querry, Cheenath said the community had no objection
to VHP observing August 13 as `Sacrifice Day` and hoped it
would be a peaceful day. ``Plans are afoot for Christians to
hold prayer and fast on August 23.
The Bishop House was yet to get any information regarding
any unplesant development in Kandhamal or elsewhere in the
state, he added.
