Soon after its release, the film is being touted as one of the biggest hits of 2008 and is now being looked upon as one of Anees’s bestworks ever. Here’s hearing right from Anees’s perspective as to what it took to make Akki the king:

Spicezee : After `Welcome`, `Singh is Kinng` is you second film with Katrina and Akshay. Are they your favourites?

Anees:Yes, it is my second film with Akshay and Katrina. Audiences love the duo, they have a tremendous chemistry on screen. For me my actors have to fit the role perfectly. Both of them were perfect. There is no favouritism here, but yes we are very good friends and enjoy working together. In fact, every day was a new experience.

Spicezee : Did you face any problem with Katrina’s diction?

Anees: Well, not at all. In fact I believe that since her last movie her diction has improved remarkably well. She always spoke to me in Hindi on the sets and I never felt there was any problem whatsoever. Throughout the movie all her dialogues were in Hindi and little bit of Punjabi too has been spoken by her.

Spicezee :You have made both romantic and comic flicks, what’s your favourite genre of cinema?

Anees: I love making comic flicks. They are light and make the audience laugh. Then again I feel that I can handle comedy better. It’s not like I don’t like romantic flicks but I feel comedy brings out the best in me. Let’s just say I love making romantic comedy films.

Spicezee : What inspired you to make `Singh is Kinng`?

Anees:Well, I love making my audiences laugh. ‘Singh is Kinng’ is going to be a joy ride beyond expectations. It has romance, action, emotions, and an exceptional comedy. There is no inspiration as such. I just want to give a good movie.

Spicezee :Tell us something about Anees’ movies. What is so different about them?

Anees:I started with `Pyaar to Hona Hi Tha`, everyone liked it. It had romance, comedy and action. As I already said I love making my audience laugh. Then came `Deewanagi`, it did well too, and then came `No Entry` and `Welcome`. The genre is the same, yet they are all different from each other.

Spicezee :The movie hasn’t received much critical acclaim. What is your take on it?

Anees: The movie wasn’t made for critical acclaim. I make film only for my audience. If there is anything I need to work on and if people have suggestions and ideas, I’ll try and incorporate it in my next project. Suggestions are always welcome.

Spicezee : So does critical acclaim not matter to you?

Anees: Well I won’t say that. It does matter to me. It feels nice to be appreciated. But if one would ask me to choose between critical acclaim and audiences, I would definitely opt for the latter. I like to make films that people enjoy and have fun watching.
