New Delhi, May 11: Taking a dig at External Affairs
Minister Pranab Mukherjee for his statements attacking the
Left, CPI(M) on Monday said he would know how many years it would
take the Congress to form a government at the Centre after the
counting of votes.

The reaction came after Mukherjee said it would take 250
years for the Left to come to power at the Centre.

"We did not know Pranab Babu is an astrologer. How did he
calculate 250 years. He can only speculate till May 16 (the
day of counting). He will be able to find out only then how
many years it will take for them (Congress) to form a
government," Politburo member M K Pandhe said here.

Meanwhile, the party`s top leadership would meet here two
days after counting to take stock of the post-election
scenario and decide on the future course of action.

While the Politburo would meet on May 18, a meeting of
the central committee is likely to follow.

"After 16th, we will naturally take stock of the complete
situation and on the basis of that, take appropriate decision.
But nevertheless, our endeavour to have a non-Congress secular
government is very much on," senior CPI(M) leader Nilotpal
Basu told reporters.

The CPI`s national executive would meet on May 19 and its
national council the next day onwards. The decision-making
bodies of the RSP and Forward Bloc have also scheduled their
meetings from May 18 onwards.
