Flood-hit Bihar needs Rs 30,000 cr rehab package: Jha

Flood ravaged districts of Bihar would need a rehabilitation package of Rs 30,000 crore from various multilateral agencies and the government, Chairman of the Special Task Force on Bihar Satish C Jha said.

New Delhi, Sep 15: Flood ravaged districts of Bihar
would need a rehabilitation package of Rs 30,000 crore from
various multilateral agencies and the government, Chairman of
the Special Task Force on Bihar Satish C Jha said.

"A report has been prepared after assessing the
condition of marooned districts and will be submitted it to
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tomorrow," he said.

The World Bank, Asian Development Bank and other
multilateral agencies have also been approached and they have
agreed in-principle, but a Finance Ministry's go-ahead is
awaited to take it forward, he said further.

Union Government has already sanctioned a relief package
of Rs 1,000 crore a couple of weeks ago.

He emphasised that the public sector and private banks
need to come out with an innovative approach to speed up the
funding for rehabilitation.

The situation in Bihar is devastating and need immediate
action, he said and added the flood-hit areas should be
declared as Special Development Zone.

Jha also pointed out that there is lack of technical
coordination between the central and state committees.

The flood, which affected lives of nearly 30 lakh people,
has taken Bihar 10 years back on development front and have
