On 12 July 1998, France trod Brazil 3-0 to claim the FIFA World Cup Champions title on home soil thanks to some fine performances by Zidane, Youri Djorkaeff and Fabien Barthez. That remains their only World Cup final victory so far.
France have, though, made it to 11 FIFA World Cup finals and have produced some great players like Michel Platini, Alain Giresse and Jean Tigana in the past. They carried on their World Cup 1998 form by triumphing in the 2000 UEFA European Championships where they defeated Italy 2-1 and are sure one of the teams to watch out for in the FIFA 2006 Tounament.
