GE to set up software division in Bangalore

The US-based General Electric (GE) would set up a software division in Bangalore this year with the largest ever investment to be made by GE outside US, Karnataka chief minister S M Krishna said on Tuesday.

The software unit would initially employ 800 scientists and the strength would be increased to 2000 next year, Krishna said without divulging other details.
Stating that Bangalore has emerged as a major hub for information technology investments, he said a task force with Naryana Murthy, chairman of Infosys and Aziz Premiji, chairman, Wipro industries, as its members, was constituted to oversee the overall growth and expansion of it in his state.
Krishna said Japan, Thailand, Korea and Singapore evinced keen interest in the city of garden in view of rapid growth in it. The government was also encouraging establishment of engineering colleges in private sector and trying to cope and meet the ever-growing demand for job placements overseas.
