Govt widens export sops to Kamal Nath`s constituency

The Director General of Foreign Trade under the Commerce Ministry has notified amendments in the handbook of procedures in the exim policy extending the benefits of the agri export zones to vegetables as well, in Chhindwara, Hoshangabad and Betul in Madhya Pradesh.

Apart from oranges, ginger is the main vegetable produce from the area. Besides a variety of herbs, whose exports are increasing, is grown in these tribal areas.

Earlier, the benefit was restricted to oranges from the three districts and inclusion of vegetables would help large number of exporters from the state, official sources said.

The commodities notified in the AEZ get various incentives like duty credit ranging from 5-10 per cent of the export turnover.

There are 60 AEZs operational throughout the country and these zones have done exports of agri products to the extent of Rs 5200 crore since the scheme was conceptualised in 2001.

Different ministries including the Ministry of Agriculture want to give a further push to the scheme.
