Day temperatures rose by a few degrees across the region
as monsoon rains eluded most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Jammu
and Kashmir and the national capital with high humidity levels
adding to the discomfiture of people. Delhi recorded a maximum
of 37.5 degree Celsius.

Heavy rains lashed Gorakhpur, Basti and Faizabad
districts of Uttar pradesh in the last 24 hours, where rivers
started swelling.

Light rains also occurred at few places in desert state
of Rajasthan, but day temperatures kept rising with Churu and
Ganganagar recording a high of 42 degrees, followed by Bikaner
and Jaipur which recorded 39 degrees each.

While sultry conditions prevailed in Punjab and Haryana,
where Hisar remained the hottest place at 42 degrees Celsius,
seven notches above normal, maximum temperatures hovered above
normal at many places in Jammu and Kashmir also.

The day temperature in twin capital cities of Srinagar
and Jammu was recorded three degrees above normal at 33 and 35
degrees, respectively.
