Hundreds defy curfew, take out rallies in Manipur

Hundreds of people today defied indefinite curfew imposed in several parts of Manipur`s Imphal East and Imphal West districts and took out rallies demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.

Imphal: Hundreds of people today defied indefinite curfew imposed in several parts of Manipur`s Imphal East and Imphal West districts and took out rallies demanding
the resignation of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh over the killing of a young man in an alleged fake encounter.
Though the indefinite curfew clamped on the districts since July four has been relaxed every day, there was no relaxed today and there was heavy deployment of police and
security forces at various places including Raj Bhavan and the
Chief Minister`s complex, official sources said.

The rallyists including women marched through Lamlai,
Khurai, Iroisemba and Sajiwa jail areas shouting slogans
demanding Singh`s resignation over the killing of 27-year-old
Chungkham Sanjit by police commandos at the Imphal market in
an alleged encounter on July 23.

The agitation is being spearheaded by a major social
organisation Apunba Lup.
