I attempted suicide 10 years ago: Uma Bharti

BJP leader Uma Bharti has admitted that she once tried to commit suicide, but denied that it was prompted by a failed love affair.

New Delhi, Aug 27: BJP leader Uma Bharti has admitted that she once tried to commit suicide, but denied that it was prompted by a failed love affair.
Some people had linked it to a failed affair ''with an intention to hurt me and that person. The two issues have no connection at all,'' Uma Bharti told in a TV interview.

“For the first time in ten years since it happened, I am admitting this, because I could not bear the sufferings my family was facing. I was telling all and sundry that if you are jealous of my fame, punish me, not my family.''
Uma Bharti denied that she sent her resignation letter to the Parliamentary Party leader instead of the Speaker so that she could take it back. If it was so, she would have sent it to L.K. Advani or Bangaru Laxman, she said.
Asked why she had not given up her primary membership of the BJP, she said that this was because hundreds of thousands of people of the Bundelkhand region had joined the party due to her. And if she left the party her supporters would get the feeling that there was something wrong with the party.
