Dubai, Jan 13: Nearly 200 artists from India will showcase the rich cultural heritage of the country through their performances during the Dubai Shopping Festival beginning today.
"The variety, extent and quantum of activities that will be showcased as part of this cultural bonanza will truly be spectacular.... For lovers of all things Indian, this feast of tradition, heritage and entertainment will be unprecedented, offering something for everyone," organizers of the India pavilion said.

To provide an authentic flavour of Indian performing arts to the audience, nearly 200 dancers, singers and artists are being flown into Dubai, so that not only the performers get a truly international opportunity to showcase their talents, but the visitors too get to enjoy India’s artistic heritage as it has evolved over thousands of years, they said.

The event will include dances and musical performances by artists from various states of India, including Punjab, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

Many other cultural performances will also be featured during the 79 days of global village. "Global village has always been a great opportunity to showcase the rich and varied cultural heritage of India’s 5000-year-old civilization," the organizers said.

The facade of the pavilion is a replica of the famed Mysore Palace, Karnataka. The stage, where the activities and events will take place is themed on the Hoysala School of Architecture, an elaborate copy of the archaeological monument at Somnathpur, also in Karnataka.
