J&K Govt submits Rs 1400 reconstruction plan to Centre

Jammu & Kashmir government has submitted a reconstruction plan of Rs 1400 crore to the Centre for the quake affected people of the state, Home Minister Shivraj Patil said in Srinagar on Sunday.

Srinagar, Oct 08: Jammu & Kashmir government has
submitted a reconstruction plan of Rs 1400 crore to the Centre
for the quake affected people of the state, Home Minister
Shivraj Patil said here today.

"We (Centre) are examining the reconstruction plan
submitted by the state government for quake affected people of
the state," Patil said at a function organised jointly by
Jammu & Kashmir regional branch of Indian Institute of
Public Administration and Indian Red Cross Society here to
mark the first anniversary of the quake this evening.

He said the Centre would consider the proposal and
provide every help to the state in speedy reconstruction
programme.

Among others, the function was attended by the State
Governor S K Sinha, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, former
Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, Chief Justice of Jammu &
Kashmir High Court Justice B A Khan and other high ranking
politicians and officials of the state government.

Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad while thanking the Centre
for liberal and unprecedented help provided to the state to
combat the post earthquake situation said that the role of
NGOs, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, political leaders like former
Chief Ministers Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Farooq Abdullah, social
organizations and chief ministers of various states is highly
laudable.

Azad also highlighted the role of Patil for channelizing
support to Jammu & Kashmir at a time of need last year.
