Korean swimmer wins most valuable player award

Star Korean swimmer Tae Hwan Park on Friday was declared the most valuable player of the 15th Asian games ahead of four other contenders, including Indian shooter Jaspal Rana.

Doha, Dec 15: Star Korean swimmer Tae Hwan Park on Friday was
declared the most valuable player of the 15th Asian
games ahead of four other contenders, including Indian shooter
Jaspal Rana.

Park excelled in the games with three gold, one silver
and three bronze medals and also set two games records in 200m
and 1500 m.

He will receive a trophy and a cheque worth USD 50,000.
The cheque would be given to the Korean Olympic Committee for
support and training of the athlete.

Other than Rana, the other nominees were Xiang Liu (110 m
hurdle), Jiaying Pang (swimming) and Wei Yang (gymnastics),
all hailing from China.

The MVP awardee is selected by the media covering the
games. The journalists have to vote between eight athletes
shortlisted by the selection committee constituted by Dagoc,
the organising committee, the Olympic Council of Asia and
Samsung, the sponsors, who first introduced the award in the
1998 edition.
