LeT men held with AK 56 get lifer, 14-yr jail

A sessions court Monday awarded life imprisonment to a LeT operative and sentenced another member of the terror group to 14 years in jail, five years after they were arrested with AK-56 rifles and ammunition in the city.

Lucknow: A sessions court Monday awarded life imprisonment to a Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) operative and sentenced another member of the terror group to 14 years in
jail, five years after they were arrested with AK-56 rifles and ammunition in the city.

Atharuddin was handed down life imprisonment while Mohd
Irfan was awarded a 14-year jail term under POTA and various
sections of IPC.

District and sessions judge Shivanand Mishra also
imposed a total fine of Rs 8.2 lakh on Atharuddin and
Rs 4.7 lakh on Irfan this afternoon.

The LeT operatives were arrested on March 12, 2004 by
the special task force of Uttar Pradesh Police from the city.
Prohibited arms like AK 56 rifles and ammunition were
recovered from them, the prosecution contended.
