London, Aug 29: Pop diva Madonna has appeared with a diamond-encrusted ring on her engagement finger, fuelling speculation she is to wed her boyfriend, the Sun newspaper said in its Wednesday edition.
Madonna, 42, was spotted wearing the ring while out in Los Angeles with her lover, film director Guy Ritchie, according to the tabloid. The couple recently had their first child together when Madonna gave birth to a son, Rocco.
The Sun quoted a friend of the couple as saying the child's birth had convinced Ritchie, 31, that he should tie the knot with Madonna.
“He intends to marry Madonna by Christmas,” Erin Berg was quoted as saying. “Rocco's difficult birth has led to Guy realising all he wants is to marry Madonna and become a family.”
But the newspaper — not normally inclined to be circumspect in its reporting — stopped short of saying Madonna and Ritchie were definitely going to marry.
Ritchie directed the successful British movie Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and his latest film, Snatch, has just been released in Britain.
