MP HC asks lower court to dismiss case against Dera chief

Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed a lower court to dismiss a case against the Dera Sacha Sauda Head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, in which he is accused of hurting religious sentiments of Sikh community.

J K Maheshwari has recently directed the lower court to
dismiss the case against the Dera Chief, his counsel
Chandrashekhar Raikwar told reporters here today.

A case was filed in the lower court against the Dera
Chief under Section 295 (a) of IPC by a lawyer Inderjeet
Singh Bhatia in May 2007.

In the complaint, Bhatia said the Dera Chief had worn
clothes alike the tenth Sikh Guru Govind Singh at a function,
which had hurt the sentiments of Sikh community.

The lower court has issued a bailable warrant against
Dera Chief after which he moved the High Court.

Raikwar said that the High Court`s direction has come
after he contended that the government`s mandatory approval,
to file a case against the Dera chief under Section 295 (a),
had not been taken.
