M`rashtra govt may appeal acquittal of 3 in Khairlanji case

Maharashtra government is likely to move the court against the acquittal of three persons in the Khairlanji Dalit killing case by a trial court and said it expected stringment punishment for those found guilty.

Mumbai, Sept 15: Maharashtra government is likely to
move the court against the acquittal of three persons in the
Khairlanji Dalit killing case by a trial court and said it
expected stringment punishment for those found guilty.

"We are consulting legal experts about proceeding against
the three accused let off by the court today", Deputy Chief
Minister RR Patil, who holds the Home portfolio, said.

Patil said he expected stringent punishment for those
held guilty by the court.

He appealed to people to mainatin peace and harmony. "For
the aggrieved party, there is a provision to go to the appeal
court. Nobody should try to disrupt peace and harmony in the
state", he said.

Describing the September 2006 killings of four members
of the Bhotmange family as a "blot on humanity" at Khairlanji
in Bhandara district, Patil said he had already acted against
policemen accused of dereliction of duty in the case.
