Naresh Trehan honoured for his contribution to cardiac care

President A P J Abdul Kalam on Sunday gave away the prestigious `Lal Bahadur Shastri national award for excellence in public administration, academics and management for 2005` to renowned cardiologist Naresh Trehan.

gave away the prestigious `Lal Bahadur Shastri national award
for excellence in public administration, academics and
management for 2005` to renowned cardiologist Naresh Trehan.

The award given at Rashtrapati Bhavan, carries a cash
prize of Rs 1 lakh, a citation and a plaque.

The awardee is designated as Lal Bahadur Shastri fellow
and his name inscribed on the honours roll of the Lal Bahadur
Shastri Institute of Management Delhi.

Before the commencement of the ceremony, Kalam was
received by Union Home Minister Shri Shivraj Patil who is the
chairman of the jury, and Shri Anil Shastri, convener of the
jury.

After reading of the citation and the details of the
award, amidst a thunderous applause by the audience, Trehan
walked upto the President to receive the award.

Those present included Union Ministers, Congress
working committee members, diplomats, Lieutenant Governor of
Delhi, Chief Minister of Delhi, Members of Parliament, senior
government officials, officers of the armed forces, renowned
academicians and corporate leaders.

Trehan in his award acceptance speech said that he felt
greatly honoured on this momentous occasion especially
because of his great admiration for Lal Bahadur Shastri, who
had blessed him when he had gone to see him with his father at
the age of six or seven.

The renowned cardiologist said he draws inspiration from
Shastriji even today.
