Plan Panel okays Rs 100 cr for Pune's sports infrastructure

The Planning Commission has sanctioned Rs 100 crore for sports infrastructure at the Shiv Chattrapati Sports Complex near here in view of the Commonwealth Youth Games to be held in the city in October 2008.

This follows the visit of an inter-ministerial team under
the chairmanship of A N P Sinha, advisor, planning commission,
here on September 5, said Suresh Kalmadi, chairman of
organising committee for Commonwealth Youth Games, in a
statement here today.

The local MP said as a first step, the Planning
Commission has sanctioned Rs 100 crore.

The planning panel has also directed that Pune's
infrastructure projects of about Rs 500 crore be funded
through the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission, a
Centre-sponsored scheme.

This includes over Rs 270 crore for roads, flyovers,
tunnels and subways, and over Rs 195 crore for public
transport, the former minister added.
