New Delhi, Aug 28: Manoj ‘Night’ Shyamalan, the director of The Sixth Sense , a much acclaimed US box-office hit and an Oscar nominee, has become the highest paid scriptwriter and one of the best paid directors in Hollywood following a $5-million deal with Disney Productions to direct a film based on his new script.
Shyamalan, who earned rave reviews as well as money forThe Sixth Sense which also became the 15th highest grosser of all times in the US, received the record-breaking sum from Disney Productions for his new script — Unbreakable , which is again a suspense thriller with supernatural overtones.
Shyamalan will get another $5 million to direct the film. Production will commence in April next year with Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson in the lead roles. With this deal, Shyamalan is now the highest paid scriptwriter and one of the best-paid directors in the business. The previous record holder for the highest paid script in Hollywood was Shane
Black's The Long Kiss Goodnight, for which New Line paid $4 million.
Shyamalan had received $3 million for The Sixth Sense which has, slowly but steadily, become the 15th highest domestic grosser of all times in the US. Much like The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable too is a suspense thriller with supernatural overtones.
While the script is a closely guarded secret, sources say it revolves around a man (Willis) who learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident.
