Singapore to outsource 1,000 IT pros

Computer education and software firm NIIT Ltd on Sunday said it has won a mandate from the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore for providing over 1,000 trained Infocomm professionals from its global training centres.

New Delhi, Aug 27: Computer education and software firm NIIT Ltd on Sunday said it has won a mandate from the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore for providing over 1,000 trained Infocomm professionals from its global training centres.
NIIT will provide these professionals from its training centres in China, India, Indonesia and Malaysia for meeting IDA’s critical Infocomm manpower needs within a year. All these global training centres work under the NIIT Asia Pacific Pvt Ltd.
A memorandum of understanding was signed between IDA and NIIT here on Saturday. A joint statement by the two organisations said in the new economy many high-growth sectors face significant shortages in IT manpower. This includes shortages in the IT industry as well as in other traditional sectors of the economy where rapid digital transformation has led to a surge in the demand for skilled manpower. The growth in IT manpower in Singapore is likely to average 10 per cent over the next two years and this translates to a need for 10,000 IT professionals.
''Tie-ups similar to the IDA-NIIT collaboration will facilitate and enhance the value in the companies' search for IT workforce to supplement the pool of talents in Singapore to meet the ever-growing demand by the industry,'' the statement said.
