Spielberg backs Hillary’s presidential candidacy

US film director Steven Spielberg has lent his support to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Washington, June 14: US film director Steven Spielberg has lent his support to presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.
The Hollywood celebrity, however, does not have any plans to co-host any future fund-raiser for former President Bill Clinton’s wife because he is busy the next instalment of the "Indiana Jones" franchise.

Clinton’s supporters say that Spielberg’s support has given her a boost. They say that the film director decided to go with Clinton only after meeting other hopefuls, and considering their views.

Her supporters also hope now that Spielberg association with Clinton may even help bring people who have thrown their support initially to Obama to her side.

"I've taken the time to familiarize myself with the impressive field of Democratic candidates and am convinced that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate to lead us from her first day in the White House," Variety magazine quoted Spielberg as saying in a statement released by the campaign on Wednesday morning.

"Hillary is a strong leader and is respected the world over. As president, she will bring America back together, rebuild our prestige abroad and ensure our protection here at home," the statement added.

Obama's camp is looking forward to obtaining the support of talk show queen Oprah Winfrey, and she is expected to host an event for him, say reports.

"We're more than pleased with the level of grassroots support in California and around the country," Obama spokesman Bill Burton said in response to Spielberg's endorsement.
