Survey for documentation of works of rural artisans in C’garh

Chhattisgarh government has launched an ambitious project to identify folk artists and artisans and document their works, official source said on Sunday.

Raipur, Oct 01: Chhattisgarh government has launched
an ambitious project to identify folk artists and artisans and
document their works, official source said on Sunday.

"Perhaps Chhattisgarh is the first state to take such a
step in which all the folk artists and village artisans would
be identified through out the state and their works would be
documented," official sources said here today.

An ambitious project `Chinhari' (identification) has been
launched by the state government under the direction of the
Culture Minister Brij Mohan Agrawal and works are on to
collect the details `bio-data' of about 50,000 such artists,
they said

The state government was taking steps to document their
works so that they would also be honoured by the culture
department in future. Besides, steps would be taken to protect
their art, the sources said.

Surveys have been launched in all the Panchayats of the
state and so far about 1500 such artists have been identified
and their works documented, they said.
