Three JeM ultras among five killed in J&K

Three Pakistani militants belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and a jawan were killed on Sunday as Army foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, where a policeman was killed and two others were injured in a militant attack and security forces arrested six overground workers of ultras.

Jaish-e-Mohammad outfit and a jawan were killed on Sunday as Army
foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control in Poonch
district in Jammu and Kashmir, where a policeman was killed
and two others were injured in a militant attack and security
forces arrested six overground workers of ultras.

A group of militants sneaked into this side from across
the LoC in Doba-Nallah area of Poonch district early today, a
defence spokesman said adding, troops picked up their movement
through surveillance equipment and asked them to surrender
after cordoning off the area.

However, the ultras did not do so and a gun battle ensued
in which three militants were killed, the spokesman said. A
jawan identified as Sepoy Rahul was also killed in the
encounter.

The militants belonged to JeM and were Pakistanis, he
said adding, three AK rifles, 17 magazines, 21 grenades and
four improvised explosive devices were recovered from the
site.

One militant is still holed up in the area and the
exchange of fire is going on, the spokesman added.

A team of Indian reserve police was returning after
disbursing salary among policemen posted at different remote
pickets when militants lobbed a grenade on their vehicle and
opened fire at Moori top in Gool Tehsil of Udhampur district
last night, official sources said.

In the attack, a Head Constable Gulzar Ahmed was killed
on the spot while an assistant sub-inspector and a constable
were seriously injured, they said.
