New Delhi, Oct 09: The Special Investigation Team
(SIT) probing the Uphaar fire today submitted a report in the
Delhi High Court in which it stated that documents deposited
in the trial court were tampered with to protect the Ansal
family members in the tragedy in which over 50 people died.

According to the supplementary report submitted before
Justice A K Sikri, the sit said that the material so far
collected revealed that Dinesh Chandra Sharma, the dismissed
employee of the trial court was in regular touch with Ansal
properties owners through mobile and landline telephones.

This could be established after the sit collected details
of the phone calls allegedly made and received by Sharma with
the officials of the Ansal properties who allegedly owned the
the cinema house at the time of the tragedy.

Justice Sikri while taking on record the supplementary
status reported directed the agency to complete the probe and
submit a final report by February 7, 2007.

The court had earlier directed registration of an FIR
on the allegations that documents deposited in trial court
which reportedly linked the Ansal family to the ownership of
the theatres were destroyed by Sharam at the alleged behest of
the accused.

The FIR was ordered on a petition filed by R
Krishnamurthy, general secretary, association of the victims
of Uphaar tragedy seeking registration of a criminal case
against the Ansal family members for their alleged involvement
in the destruction of the documents.
