Wagah ceremony to be mellowed down

Wagah, Nov 08: The excitement of watching beating the retreat ceremony performed by BSF and Pakistan Rangers at the Indo-Pak checkpost in Wagah would never be the same again. In a meeting held in the Pakistan-side of the border on Monday, BSF and Pakistan Rangers decided to tone down the drills and aggressive gestures associated with the parade.

The issues of joint patrolling to stop drugs smuggling and release of prisoners were also discussed in the meeting.

The parade, performed with vigorous body movements, severe shaking of the head and thudding of the boots, was a major attraction for the tourists from both the sides. With crowds cheering from both the sides, the parade had become a kind of proxy war and jawans used to come under intense pressure to outdo each other.

However there are reports that while the Indian side is sticking to its promise of toning down the rhetoric, the Pakistani Rangers have not mended their ways.
