Chennai, Sept 15: DMK chief M Karunanidhi on Monday said his party had decided to stay with the UPA, when the Left parties withdrew support to the Manmohan Singh Ministry over the Indo-US nuclear deal issue, as it wanted the `secular government at the Centre` to continue in office.
Participating in a poets meet organised by the DMK to mark the inauguration of the year-long birth centenary celebrations of party founder C N Annadurai, he said "I have taken the decision keeping in mind of the country`s future."

"I tried my level best to bring about an amicable settlement between the Congress and the Left on the nuclear deal. But the Left parties had taken a decision to withdraw the support without informing me," he said.

He appealed to people not to allow "religious fanatic" group to form a government, but to vote for a secular government at the Centre.
