Mangalore,Oct 09: Communal violence-hit Mangalore
and three other places nearby would remain curfew-bound till
tomorrow morning after a youth was assaulted in the city
during curfew relaxation period, a top police official said.

Authorities relaxed curfew for four hours from 9 am today
in the city, its rural limits, Konaje and Ullal, district
superintendent of police B Dayanand told media persons. It has been
further extended from 6 pm today to 7 am tomorrow.

he said.

The BJP-JD(S) government`s handling of the situation came
in for flak from union minister of state for home Prakash
Jaiswal who was here to assess the situation.

Expressing displeasure over the handling, he said
violence should have been curbed from day one itself and
termed as "improper" prolonged curfew.

Jaiswal told reporters that he would submit a report on
the situation to the government and he had asked the state
government to take stern action against organisations which
instigated violence.

Karnataka Home Minister M P Prakash, who also visited the
affected areas separately, said the government was
contemplating banning organisations which fomented communal
violence. He did not, however, name the organisations.

Prakash said the violence had claimed two lives and left
80 persons injured.

Rapid action force, central reserve police force,
Karnataka state reserve police and district armed reserve
police had been deployed in sensitive areas. Violence erupted
on Wednesday last after Bajrang Dal activists intercepted a
vehicle carrying cattle to a slaughterhouse.

a report to the Centre on the prevailing situation here.

He said he was here to assess the situation and had told
the state government to take stern action against the outfits
