New Delhi: A big announcement on Maharashtra lockdown is likely to be out in the next few hours, the sources on Tuesday (April 13, 2021) afternoon. 

Zee News has come to know through sources that the Uddhav Thackrey-led government is mulling stricter 'Break the Chain' restrictions. The state government has reportedly discussed the plan with other senior political leaders and the COVID-19 Task Force.

On April 10, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray had headed an all-party meeting to discuss the crisis where a proposal of a complete lockdown for 15 days was also floated.

The state government has also recently announced a slew of restrictions that also included a weekend lockdown and night curfew till April 30.

The second wave of the coronavirus has also led to the postponement of the state board exams for classes 10 and 12. The exams for Class 12th will now be tentatively be held by end of May, while the Class 10th exams will be conducted in June. 

Taking to Twitter, the state's School Education Minister Varsha Gaikwad informed that the situation was being closely monitored and that fresh dates for these exams will be announced accordingly. 

This is pertinent to know that Maharashtra, the worst coronavirus-hit Indian state, has been witnessing an unprecedented surge in infections from the past few weeks. It reported 51,751 new cases in the last 24 hours. Maharashtra's active count has now soared to 5.64 lakh, whereas, the death toll stands at 58,245.
