At least one terrorist was killed on Friday when an exchange of fire took place between terrorists and security forces in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The body of the terrorist is yet to be recovered.

Two to three terrorists were said to be holed up in the area and when the security forces launched a search operation the terrorists fired on them. The encounter is underway in Narwani area of the district.

The mobile internet has been suspended in Shopian and Pulwama districts as a precautionary measure.

A joint team of the Army's 44 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), Central Reserve Police Force and J&K Special Operations Group (SOG) launched the operation. According to a senior police official, they received specific inputs about the presence of terrorists in the apple orchards in the area following which they launched the operation.
