India on Sunday (March 22, 2020) will observe the largest voluntary social distancing and shutdown called Janata Curfew for 14 hours to tackle the coronavirus COVID-19 threat. PM Narendra Modi has urged people to voluntarily stay indoors to check the spread of coronavirus.

India on Sunday (March 22, 2020) is observing the largest voluntary social distancing and shutdown called Janata Curfew for 14 hours to tackle the coronavirus COVID-19 threat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people to voluntarily stay indoors to check the spread of coronavirus. Public transport will be suspended or curtailed and all markets and shops except those dealing in essential items will be closed during the 14-hour Janata Curfew.

Even Indian Railways has stopped 3700 trains to stop people from travelling and it has also cancled all passenger trains till March 31 to avoid any kind of public gathering amid the virus outbreak.

Meanwhile, cities across India came to standtill after the self-imposed curfew as no traffic movement was seen across India. Bihar reported its first two cases of coronavirus including death of a 38-year-old man who died due to COVID-19 disease. Punjab govt has announced lock down till March 31 as a preventive measure to stop spread of coronavirus.

Telangana lockdown till March 31. Essential services will be exempted. Grocery shops open. one person per family can go out only and only to buy some essential things like food, medicines.

Only 20 per cent govt staff in non-essential areas will work on a rotation basis. Essential services employees must be on duty compulsorily.

For poor and white ration cards holders, state govt will provide 12 kgs of rice and Rs 1500 to buy other essential commodities for this period. 

Public transport will be stopped completely.

 The Indian Railways on Sunday (March 22) decided to extend cancellation of all passenger trains till March 31. The cancellation will also include all originating long-distance Mail/Express and inter-city trains. Trains which had commenced their journey before 2 pm on March 22 will however be allowed to complete their journey. Ministry of Railways said in its order that no train except goods train will be run up to 2400 hrs of March 31. "However bare minimum Suburban services and Kolkata metro Rail service  will continue to run till 2400 hrs on 22.03.2020, thereafter these services will also be stopped till 2400 hrs of 31.03.2020," announced Ministry of Railways.
